While browsing your favorite magazines – Cosmopolitan, FHM, Vogue or Seventeen, do you ever encounter a model with a plus size body? Or do you ever hear of a news that a plus size actress/model is on top of the FHM list? Never, right? Because if a model or an actress was four size larger than her usual size, she couldn’t be one for such reason.
Size does matter. And we know it. Those women in the business industry prefer to have a fit and sexy body rather than a “chubby” body. If ever their body is added with one or two inches, they would take diet pills or medicine like: Buegerlie tea, Slenda and so on. Or they drink lots of Fit and Right for two to three months everyday, or even undergo liposuction.
Insecurity, most especially to the shape of the body is common to all women, not only to those in the show business but also to those ordinary women out there. For some, being sexy is beautiful, and any guy cannot lie that if a girl is sexy, she’s beautiful and awesome.
Women today wants to look good and looking good is always having a sexy body. You can wear any kinds of clothes. And all sorts of clothes (all kinds, designs and fit) can look good on youLots of young women adore and idolize those skinny models and actresses they see in the magazine and television. And in those, they portray their favorite actress/model in just a snap. But, those young women do not have any idea whether their favorite idol are in good health or if their body is fit and right.
Some models/actresses cannot hide from their shells for a long time. For such, Anorexia, Bulimia, Binge eating and other eating disorders are common to them. And it is evident in their figure. In order to maintain their body figure without using any scientific preventives, they became Anorexic or as well as Bulemic.
Nervous Loss of Appetite
Anorexia Nervosa, as translated from latin,is a loss of appetite for nervous reasons. According to NEDA (National Eating Disorder Association), it is evidently a serious, potentially life-threatening disorder characterized by self-starvation and excessive weight loss. In other words, you are not allowing yourself to eat. Like eating only one full meal for one week straight in attempt on saving your allowance or in losing weight.
This disorder is also known as the Golden Girl Syndrome. Why? Because it is familiar among rich people and among first world countries where they can get the food they want and where food is available and abundant.
Anorexics control their eating habits to its dangerous capacity. As the disease continues, one experiences vomiting (may or may not self instiginate) and exhaustion due to starvation. It may also result to infertility, develop osteoporosis and make it harder to get pregnant.
Women who are experiencing this kind of disorder even if they’re undernourished still do not feel hungry. Because of psychological conditioning, it may equate to hunger and then losing unnecessary weight they wanted. In fact, according to NEDA, starving yourself for long period of time will have unfavourable effects on your body and due to its effects, a percentage of Anorexics have died.
Those well-known personality whose experiencing this kind of disorders are as follows, according to Eating Disorder Referral and Information Center; the late Karen Carpenter, who went on a water diet to lose weight, Mary-Kate Olsen, who underwent treatment for Anorexia and Christina Ricci, who is suffering from the disorder and who admitted to cutting herself because of it, are those celebrities who experience Anorexia.
Bulimia Nervosa
The term literally means, in latin, “the nervous hunger of an ox”. But the hunger in this says, EDA (Eating Disorder Association) says, is an emotional need that cannot be satisfied by food alone. According to NEDA, Bulimia is a serious, potentially life threatening eating disorder characterized by a cycle of Bingeing and compensatory behaviours such as self-induced vomiting designed to undo or compensate for the effects of Binge eating. In other words, after eating large quantities of food, one has an urge to immediately vomit or take laxatives in order to not gain weight. It is more likely common to those women in the late teens to the early 20s and is often associated with low self-esteem or lack of self-confidence.
One cannot notice if a person is Bulimic, the reason for this is the weight loss that is lesser compared to Anorexics. In this case of unnoticed loss of weight, the illness last for years undetected. As a result of this disorder, it fatally affects the functions of the body’s vital internal organ. And it also includes drying up of salivary glands, choking painful swallowing, stomach rupture and erosion of teeth’s enamel. If it is not ridden, Bulimia can be fatal due to heart failure.
Paula Abdul, who battled from Bulimia; Diana, Princess of Wales, who used to self-harm herself; Kelly Clarkson, who struggled with Bulimia, are some of those well-known personalities who are experiencing this kind of disorder, according to Eating Disorder Referral and Information Center.
Other Eating Disorder and Binge Eating
According to NEDA, Binge eating is a type of eating disorder not otherwise specified and as characterized by recurrent Binge eating with out the regular use of compensatory insures to counter the Binge eating. Meaning, those who experience Binge eating , eats whatever, whenever, even if their full or not hungry. It involves eating large quantities of food in one sitting.
It is more evident that there are more people who suffer from Binge eating rather than Anorexia or Bulimia. Those experiencing this kind of condition are usually overweight.
“Chew and Spit behaviour” is another kind of eating disorder, wherein a person chews up the food to tastes it, and later on throws it. This condition does not fall to any kind of disorders neither to Anorexia nor Bulimia, but it has been said that it can be overcame under the treatment of the experts.
The reality
Having a good shape of body is beautiful but undergoing some of these conditions just to have a perfect and sexy body is not good anymore. One can experience a lot of effects in your body and it also ruins your health.
But the reality predicts that we can expect to stop any of these conditions. Somewhere in the world, someone will refuse to eat and under go some of these conditions just to have a smaller waistline and just to become one of their portraying models or actresses. This will happen as long as they’re obsessed with their idols and insecure about their body.
