Who cares about Original Pinoy Music nowadays?
Certainly, almost everyone knows about the usual ballads or the Pinoy rock we can all hear through mainstream radio stations. But how about bringing back Asin’s, Freddie Aguilar’s, or Grace Nono’s?
Many would find it strange to hear them again, but one very interesting artist brings that music back to our ears with a unique twist. Cynthia Alexander captures the taste of Filipino urbanites that like easy listening but with a hint of Filipino tune enveloped in all of her three albums.
Her unique voice and the mixture of music she creates can put you back to Grace Nono’s days, but on a different experience.
Alexander impressively writes lyrics that would take you to another world. Many litterateurs listen to Alexander for the good mixture of her words and her music. Definitely another quick way to find comfort amidst one’s hectic schedule.
Released in 1997, Insomnia and other Lullabyes successfully launched Cynthia Alexander in the OPM scene, with her own paintings in the cover, sleeve, and on the compact disc itself. Songs like Insomnia, Hiroshima, No Umbrella, and Comfort in Your Strangeness would keep you listening to her all day long.
Followed by albums Rippingyarns in 2000 with beautiful songs including Fly, I Don’t Mind, Knowing There’s Only Now, Rainday, and Comet’s Tail in 2005 with songs Turquoise Blue, Alone, and Moon Over You, Alexander remains faithful to her genre.
